Seb Rowe - Stockport Sports Trust - Football Development Officer Seb presented a great session at our January Meeting on the work he is doing within Stockport to promote Football at all levels. Seb explained that the role was a 3 year position initially for the Council, now with the Stockport Sports Trust is proving to be an interesting challenge within the current financial climate and with the amount of other sports and activities available within the borough. Seb informed us of the current initiatives that are being worked on the promote Football, including cooperation with Football Associations and money being spent to improve footballing facilities. A major challenge Seb informed us he was facing, is the shortage of qualified Coaches and Referees' needed to deliver these ideas. Although many courses are being run as a matter of precedence to fill the current voids, Seb impressed upon us that without these people in place the game cannot improve its current standings. Seb then split us into groups of 4 and set us a quiz on the Governance of Football, Social knowledge and local football in Stockport. Questions ranged from - What does the abreviation FIFA stand for? In what year was EUFA formed? How many Football teams are based in Stockport? How many clubs in Stockport are FA Charter Standed? The night was finished with the usual rigged raffle, where the committee won the majority of the prizes. Another great night at Stockport Referees' |

Stockport Referees’ Society most senior female referee, Sarah Hollins, has received the appointment that she richly deserves. Sarah has been appointed as one of the Assistant Referees on this season’s FA Tesco Women’s Premier League Cup Final between Everton and Leeds, to be played on Thursday 11th February 2010 @ Rochdale FC. Sarah has battled for many months through a serious ankle injury, and this appointment is just testament to her hard work and commitment that Sarah has put in to get back to officiating at this level of football. All her Refereeing colleagues at Stockport Referees’ Society would like to congratulate her on the appointment and hope that she enjoys this prestigious achievement. I’m sure Sarah would love to see some of her colleagues there supporting her, on what is by far her best appointment yet. Well done Sarah, we all hope ‘the ball runs kindly for you’ |
